Book a Class

Recommended for beginners and experts alike, this two hour class led by an instructor will walk you and your party step by step through every stage of building your thriving jar ecosystem from dirt to leaf. After assembling your one-of-a-kind creation, the class ends with a thorough review on how to keep your new plants alive and thriving for years (or even decades) to come.

Black thumb? No worries! Terrariums make great “starter” projects for the houseplant curious due to their set-it-and-forget-it nature. Watch as your jar produces its own condensation and rains water down onto your plants over and over in its life cycle. And even the most houseplant challenged amongst us will rest assured with our 30-day guarantee on all creations made in classes!

Class containers include a one quart mason jar, but many options for vessel upgrades will be available to choose from in-store at the start of your class.

What’s included:

-A 1 quart mason jar with a custom clear lid
-Drainage layers and terrarium soil
-Live tropical plants
-Live green moss
-Decorative rocks
-Live springtails (subject to availability)

Plus:

-Step by step direction from an in-house terrarium instructor
-Care and nurturing guidance including watering and lighting recommendations
-A 30 day guarantee on all terrariums made during the class
-Upgrade options for bigger vessels that include all supplies
-Decorative items and maintenance kits for sale in shop
-Free terrarium “spa” maintenance for life- bring your jar in for complementary glass cleaning and trimmings as often as you’d like!

This class is recommended for all ages, but does include a heavy amount of science discussion. Some children may prefer our DIY Kids’ Terrarium Class instead.

Carnivorous Bog Garden workshop

Bugs bite, but we bite back! Embrace the macabre with your own carnivorous garden. In this workshop, we’ll talk about what makes carnivorous plants infamously difficult to take care of and what we can do to make sure they thrive in captivity while your plant your own boggy bowl to replicate their natural ecosystems in the wild.

Have you killed every flytrap you’ve ever owned? It probably wasn’t your fault! We’ll discuss why Big Box Plant Stores set you up for failure with plants like Venus flytraps before you even get them home, and the science behind why these little monsters developed a taste for blood. You and your party will be set up for decades of success with carnivorous plants once we uncover the simple truths of why these plants have unfairly been labeled ‘impossible to keep alive’.

The container included is a 6” shallow glass bowl, but bowl upgrades are available the day of the workshop.
